Steel Calculator provides browser-based structural steel design tools. We respect your privacy rights and are committed to transparency about how data is handled. This page summarises your rights under applicable privacy laws and how to exercise them.
Your rights under GDPR (EU and UK users)
If you are located in the European Union, European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you the following rights:
- Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal retention obligations.
- Right to restrict processing: Limit how your data is used while a concern is investigated.
- Right to data portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.
- Rights regarding automated decision-making: We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.
Your rights under CCPA / CPRA (California users)
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), grants California residents the following rights:
- Right to know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, the sources, the business purpose, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
- Right to delete: Request deletion of personal information collected from you, subject to statutory exceptions.
- Right to correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information: We do not collect or process sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Data retention
Calculator inputs stored in your browser's localStorage remain until you clear them. Analytics data collected via Google Analytics 4 (when consent is given) follows Google's data retention settings, currently set to 14 months. Account data is retained while your account is active and deleted upon account closure, subject to legal obligations.
How to exercise your rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address listed on the website footer. Specify which right you wish to exercise and provide sufficient information for us to verify your identity. We aim to respond within 30 calendar days as required by applicable law.
If you are dissatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
